Digital Citizens Should Be:

  • Kind.  We like to be places where people are nice to us.  Other people want to be with us when we are kind to them too.
  • Fair.  We want people to be fair with us.  Other people people want us to be fair with them.
  • Responsible.  We make choices.  We we act, people see our choices.  Friends don't make our choices.  We do.  We are responsible for making good choices.
  • Truthful. Being kind, fair, and responsible means we tell the truth.  We are not kind if we lie.  We are not fair if we do not tell the truth.  We are responsible when we are honest.

Digital Citizenship Means Using Technology Appropriately:

  • Digital Access.  When some do not have digital access, our digital society does not grow.  Expanding digital access builds our digital community.
  • Digital Commerce.  Much of our economy now moves electronically.  Digital citizens can be part of our new electronic economy.
  • Digital Communication.  We have more ways to communicate and collaborate.  Digital citizens need to understand their options and make choices. 
  • Digital Literacy.  Technology changes quickly.  Digital citizens learn how to use new technologies quickly and appropriately.
  • Digital Etiquette.  Also called 'etiquette, rules and policies aren’t enough.  Digital citizens act appropriately and politely towards others.
  • Digital Law.  Ethics guide our laws. Laws guide our actions.  Digital laws apply when we are working or playing online.
  • Digital Rights & Responsibilities.  Freedoms extend to everyone in our digital community.  With freedoms, comes responsibilities.
  • Digital Health & Wellness.  Be  safe physically and emotionally when using technology.  Eye safety and avoiding repetitive stress injuries with sound ergonomics is imporant.  Digital citizens learn to avoid compulsive technology uses.
  • Digital Security (self-protection).  We protect ourselves by being careful in the real-world.  We lock doors and use fire alarms.  Digital citizens protect their devises and their personal information.
